EPIPHYLLUM HYBRID 5

EPIPHYLLUM HYBRID 5

Epiphyllums In Connecticut

These plants are not for sale. I have created this website so that others can enjoy the photos.

Epiphyllums, sometimes called orchid cactus, are succulents with gorgeous flowers. The blossoms range in size from less than 3 inches to more than 9 inches. A common experience, once someone has seen an epiphyllum in bloom, is to want more. Although still hard to find in local nurseries, they do seem to be increasing in popularity, probably because of increased awareness as a result of an increasing number of web sites displaying these beautiful flowers. In addition to species epiphyllums, there are thousands of hybrids, available in every color except blue.
I got started with epiphyllums in the early 1990s when I saw a plant with beautiful large red blossoms blooming at a friend’s house. She told me it was an orchid cactus and later gave me a division of that plant and a "night blooming cereus" (epiphyllum oxypetalum). It took a few years to reach blooming size and 2 of the photos displayed above are the plants she gave me. After seeing these bloom I bought 2 others (‘Triumphant’ and ‘King Midas’) at a spring flower show. When ‘Triumphant’ bloomed in 1999 I was hooked. I then started seeing photos on the web and found the epiphyllum email group which further increased my "epi addiction’.
I now have more than 100 named epiphyllums and quite a few unknowns.   I created this web site to display photos of my flowers and to help others learn about these beautiful flowers.
